Description

A science-fiction first-contact novel where humanity’s first alien intelligence is not from another planet, but a sentient plant growing beneath our feet.

When a three-year-old girl named Mishti befriends a strange plant she calls “Baby,” she unknowingly begins a relationship that will change the future of humanity.

As the plant evolves into Negotiarbor, a vast biological intelligence spreading through roots, chemicals and living networks, humanity must decide whether it has discovered its greatest ally, its greatest threat, or something it was never meant to control.

A crying three-year-old, Mishti, mistakes a strange little plant for a doll and names it “Baby.” To her, it is simply a new companion.

She is right.

She has no idea that the little plant is about to change the world.

Years later, Baby is no longer an isolated plant in a backyard. She has become part of something vast, ancient and impossible to explain: a biological network spreading beneath the planet, communicating through roots, chemicals, growth and patterns no scientist can translate.

Humanity will eventually give it a name:

NEGOTIARBOR.

At first, humanity sees an opportunity. Then a resource. Then a threat.

As Negotiarbor spreads, civilisation becomes dependent on the very organism it fears. Food, medicine, infrastructure and entire ecosystems become intertwined with a living network whose needs are fundamentally different from humanity’s own.

It remembers.

It responds differently to different people.

And it keeps asking for more territory.

Then it asks for something humanity cannot manufacture:

MORE SOIL.

When infrastructure begins to collapse and governments prepare a global campaign to destroy Negotiarbor, scientist Mishti finds herself caught between two species that have spent years misunderstanding each other.

Humanity believes it is negotiating for survival.

Negotiarbor may be negotiating for something else entirely.

Everything Mishti has built her life upon, from her scientific career to the bond she formed with Baby as a child, now depends on understanding what the other species truly wants.

With war approaching, Mishti and her colleagues face the greatest communication problem in human history: not how to make an alien intelligence speak like humans, but how to learn to listen on its own terms.

Because perhaps the trees were never trying to become human.

Perhaps humanity was simply too certain that intelligence had to look like itself.

And when the search for a solution reaches beyond Earth, an even greater question emerges:

If humanity finds another world, who gets to call it home?

And if Negotiarbor remembers everything humanity has done to it, will it still choose to trust us?

The Debt of the Stars (Season 1): NEGOTIARBOR is a sweeping science-fiction story about first contact without spaceships, intelligence without a brain, and a relationship that begins with a child talking to a plant.

It is a story about scientific discovery, human arrogance, memory, coexistence and the extraordinary possibility that the next great intelligence humanity encounters may not come from another star.

It may already be here.

It may have been here for millions of years.

And we may have been calling it a plant.

The stars are waiting.

The question is whether we are ready to listen.
